At the eve of Burundi Annual Conference session to be held from 6 to 9 August, the executive committee meeting of the United Methodist Church, was officially opened by the resident bishop, His Excellency Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA at Saint Peter’s Cathedral in Gitega on August 5, 2025.
The executive committee meeting was opened with a welcoming message by Bishop Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA followed with prayer lead by Reverend Jérémie NIYONKURU, the Ngozi district superintendent.

The attendance were districts superintendents, all board chairpersons and presidents of Children, Men and Women ministries at conference level, coordinators of health, and pension. Also present were lay leaders at conference and district levels.
The conference secretary, Reverend NIYIRAGIRA Ladislas, presented the agenda for conducting the executive committee meeting. Among the main points scheduled for the meeting were, the agenda of annual conference session to be held from 6 to 9 August, a theological university set up project, reconciliation of the law with the current regulations of religious denominations leadership, funds apportionment at different levels.
The agenda of the annual conference session includes establishment of a commission to decide on new districts’ boundaries, set up districts conferences, election on regionalization, fundraising to support worldwide education ministry in the United Methodist Church within its respective central conferences.
Regarding the national law on church leadership, which requires leaders (Legal representative and his deputy) to have university degrees, it was decided that a substitute legal representative who meets the legal requirements would be elected during the annual conference session for the good of the church.
Resident expressed his gratitude towards the attendees and closed the meeting with a prayer.
