Emmanuel Sinzohagera, born on June 20, 1974 in Nyambuye, Isare Commune, Bujumbura Province, is the fifth son of Sinzohagera Gaspard and Ntamatungiro Dorothée, both deceased. Being a brilliant student, he attended primary school at the Lycée Notre Dame de ROHERO before continuing his secondary studies at the Lycée Saint Esprit de Gihosha where he studied sciences. Due to the crisis in Burundi, Emmanuel Sinzohagera was unable to continue his studies in his native country. He fled to Zaire, the current Democratic Republic of Congo, and then to Zambia where he obtained his BA(Hons) degree in Finance and Accounting in June 2001. Always passionate about his studies, he currently holds two doctorates: one in Business Administration, obtained from the Atlantic International University (2013-2015) in the USA, and the other in Leadership, obtained from the University of Nicosia in January 2025. To pursue his vocation in the ordained ministry, he earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from International Leadership University. He also obtained his master’s degree at Africa University.  He is currently doing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Wesley Theological Seminary University, Washington, DC.

His political and religious passion has allowed him to hold several positions within the country and within the United Methodist Church, of which he has been elected Bishop since March 15, 2025. Since 2020, he has been the Speaker of the Upper chamber of the Burundian Parliament (Senate).

Bishop Emmanuel Sinzohagera is married to Delphine Uwimana, a Deacon in the United Methodist Church, since 2003. They have four children: two boys and two girls.
