As part of its Discipleship Program, the United Methodist Church organized a mission in the district of Cankuzo, Buhumuza Province, from 23-24 of September 2025, with the purpose of distributing New Testaments in order to encourage students and teachers for personal Bible reading and devotion, and strengthen them in evangelism and discipleship. A number of 7460 students and 127 teachers from 19 primary schools and 11 secondary schools received the new testaments.
During the event, the District Superintendent of Cankuzo, together with the principals of both primary and secondary schools, expressed their gratitude to the United Methodist Church of Burundi. They highlighted that students are not able to purchase Bibles on their own, as the cost is currently very high. The distribution of the New Testaments was therefore received with deep appreciation, as it provides the students with the Word of God and supports their spiritual growth.
“We believe that the Bible is the foundation of true discipleship. By placing the New Testament in the hands of students and teachers, we are sowing seeds of faith that will grow and bear fruit in their lives, families, and communities”, said Rev Patrice Nduwimana, the Chair of the board of discipleship.
“We are deeply encouraged by the words of gratitude from the District Superintendent and the school leaders. Their testimony reminds us that the Word of God is precious and powerful, especially for those who could not otherwise afford it, added Rev Patrice Nduwimana.
